Polkomtel Selects KIT Digital to Power New Mobile Video Offering

DUBAI, June 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Polkomtel S.A., the leading Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) service provider in Poland, has selected KIT digital (BULLETIN BOARD: KITD) , a global provider of IPTV enablement technologies and video-centric interactive marketing solutions, to deliver new high-value content to its wireless mobile subscriber base of over 14 million people.
Kamera Content AB, a wholly-owned subsidiary of KIT digital, Inc., has been providing selected mobile video content to Polkomtel S.A. since December 2006. Under the terms of the new agreement, KIT digital will expand its video offering to the Polish cell phone giant’s subscribers to include sports, entertainment and comedy content on a network-wide basis.
“Since the re-launch of our mobile video entertainment and comedy service six months ago, we recognized a large increase in mobile video consumption,” stated Marek Drabik of Polkomtel. “With the growth of high-speed mobile networks in Poland, our subscribers are demanding the best, most interesting video content available and sports is an important part of this. Polkomtel’s commitment to sports is exemplified by its 10-year volleyball sponsorship contract with both Polish national teams and our sponsorship of other national sports leagues. Working with KIT digital gives Polkomtel the ability to provide high-quality content in an easily accessible format delivered in the Polish language.”
As a client of Kamera, Polkomtel had initially rolled out its mobile content offering by providing wireless customers access to WOW!TV, an award-winning entertainment news provider, and Vidiots, an extensive collection of funny home videos. From KIT digital, Polkomtel now has access to a superior suite of mobile video solutions, including the ability to translate video content from English to Polish. In addition, Polkomtel will be able to deliver its customers high quality, professionally produced and edited sports content from a variety of providers, which provide premier sporting event content from around the world.
“KIT digital worked closely with Polkomtel to design a mobile video offering to meet the specific needs of the Polish audience. Together, we created a video offering that combines the best of sports content, along with a time-sensitive translation from English to Polish,” said Henrik Eklund, president and chief executive officer of Kamera.
Together with the world’s leading sports News Video Agency, SNTV, KIT digital produces and offers a wide range of daily sports news for mobile TV. Subscribers to SNTV can connect to over 90% of the world’s leading sports events.
