ARLINGTON, Texas, June 11 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — With rising gas prices, food costs and family budgets squeezed tightly, many people are sadly deciding to forgo vacations this year. The Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau is coming to the rescue with a local and regional campaign designed to stay within the family-friendly budget, yet provide rest and fun for the whole family. Arlington has been home to family fun for over forty-five years and the city is still a favorite choice for travelers from around the region and state. “Locals” are encouraged to try out Arlington as a vacation destination this year and save on expenses.
Here’s how it works:
Go to and click on FUNTASTIC packages. The Staycation Central package allows guests to choose their dates and from a myriad of hotel options, ranging from budget to full-service.
Add fun activities — the kids will love Six Flags Over Texas and will beat the heat at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor. The whole family will enjoy taking in a baseball game at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, watching the Texas Rangers, and eating the traditional hot dogs and peanuts. Add on activities like the Planetarium at University of Texas Arlington, Legends of the Game Baseball Museum, Louis Tussaud’s Palace of Wax and more. The package comes with coupons, a free visitors guide, a map and more information about Arlington and its incredible vacation values.
Not included in the package but most definitely part of the Arlington experience: Mom will love to shop or pamper herself at a spa, while Dad will enjoy a little golf. The whole family can also enjoy budget-saving free “naturally fun” activities at Arlington’s parks, including Lake Arlington.
In order to make the Staycation truly relaxing, visitors are encouraged to make arrangements for pet care and other home responsibilities like plants, mail, and subscriptions. Eat at new places and remember to send postcards to friends and families “back home.”
Vacation packages start at only $59 a night, quad occupancy, two night minimum stay, based on availability. The only way to buy a three-day Six Flags Over Texas park pass, which is interchangeable between Six Flags and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor is with a package on .
As a part of the campaign, the bureau is also employing online advertising and promotion and is advertising at check-out lines in 33 Wal-Marts in Houston and the perimeter of Dallas-Fort Worth, and also includes two Wal-Marts in Arlington. See the commercial at .
“We believe that families need and deserve vacations,” says Jay Burress, President and CEO of the Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau and father of three. “My wife and I plan on having our family vacation here in Arlington this year, along with many other families. We’ll stay at an Arlington hotel and take the kids to all the fun places for which Arlington is known. Why go anywhere else?”
